Local officials of eastern Nangarhar province said on Monday that 11 Taliban insurgents surrendered their weapons and joined the government's reconciliation program.
The provincial head of the High Peace Council (HPC), Malik Nazir, said that the 11 turned themselves over to authorities with the help of the tribal elders and HPC officials.
"We urge other insurgents to renounce violence in the province and join the peace process," he added.
Last Thursday, 14 Taliban insurgents reportedly surrendered their weapons and joined the provincial reconciliation program in Baghlan province.
