Local officials of western Badghis province on Tuesday confirmed the deaths of six Taliban insurgents during a clash with the Afghan security forces that took place on Monday night. The officials said that five other insurgents were injured in the attack.
"The clash took place when a number of insurgents attacked a police check-post in the Bala Murghab district of the province," said Gen. Mohammad Juma Adeel, a border police commander in western Afghanistan.
"The clashes continued for over several hours and one Afghan police officer was also injured in the clash," he said.
The Taliban has not yet commented about the clash or casualties.
Bala Murghab is one of the most insecure districts in the province, where insurgents frequently launch attacks on the security forces.
