Residents of Kabul on Eid al-Adha spoke with TOLOnews about their optimism toward the newly established national unity government and the recent signing of the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the U.S.
“We are very happy that our fate is clear,” a Kabul resident named Ramin told TOLOnews. “All we worried about was war and now there is a hope for the future of the Afghan people and we are celebrating Eid with lots of happiness.”
The residents called on President Ashraf Ghani to stand firm on his campaign promises and bring the reforms Afghanistan needs. “Now the national unity government is established, we hope the president will do what he promised,” another resident named Sardar said.
During Eid al-Fitr over the summer, the situation was very different from Eid al-Adha. Then, people were celebrating Eid amidst the election crisis and most people were not optimistic about their future. But now, since the establishment of the power sharing deal between Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah and the signing of the BSA, people have become more hopeful about their future and are celebrating the holiday with true joy.
“It is good the election deadlock was solved and our country was saved from going toward crisis,” said Dost Mohammad, another Kabul resident.
