The U.S. auto giant Chevrolet's second Afghan franchise was established on Monday in Mazar-e-Sharif, capital of northern Balkh province, officials said.

This will be the second official branch of Chevrolet in Afghanistan, with brand new cars made in the United States, along with spare parts.

With prices ranging from $15,000 to $60,000, officials of Chevrolet Company in Afghanistan are hoping to find some space in the Toyota dominated market.

"There are two reasons for the establishment of our office in Mazar-e-Sharif: first, is the good security of Mazar-e-Sharif and secondly, demand for buying these cars is higher in Mazar-e-Sharif," said David Newman, Sales Director of Chevrolet.

A spare parts center along with a workshop was also opened alongside the new sales center.

The first franchise of Chevrolet was inaugurated in Kabul in August this year.

Though Japanese carmaker Toyota has a monopoly in the Afghan auto market, officials of Chevrolet's branch office in Afghanistan have said that they have closely studied the Afghan market before making investments and are confident that in their cars and "after sales service."
