Presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah’s camp said that disagreements over the procedure of invalidating votes still exists and negotiations on the matter between both teams have not yielded positive outcomes.
Abdullah’s team stressed that the UN proposal for termination of votes does not ensure the discarding of fake votes from the genuine votes. They add that Ghani-Ahmadzai’s camp and the United Nations (UN) must find a solution to end this disagreement before proceeding with recommencement of the audit process.
“What has been finalized by the UN will not eradicate frauds nor has there been any sort of political agreement and development,” member of Abdullah’s team, Syed Hussain Fazel Sancharaki, said. “Most of the problems are forged by our rival team because they haven’t been united, they continue to disagree and because of this they have failed to make a decision holding the process from making positive developments.”
Meanwhile, Ghani-Ahmadzai’s camp has refused the allegations made by Abdullah’s team. Ghani-Ahmadzai’s team says that necessary preparations on the procedure for vote invalidation have been taken adding that both camps have maintained their own reservations over the finalization of the procedure for invalidation of the votes.
“All issues related to the vote auditing process have been undertaken and there is no reason for further delay of the process,” Tahir Zuhair, a member of Ghani-Ahmadzai’s team, said. “Viewpoints of the both teams have been referred to the UN and the UN has prepared a plan which comprises the perspective of both teams.”
So far less than 2,000 ballot boxes have been audited at the election commission by the national, international and agents of the two electoral camps. The electoral monitoring institutions have stressed that the disagreements over the procedure for invalidation of votes have led to a weak auditing process. The observers say that without an agreement from both sides the auditing process will be delayed and the will not be completed in due time.
Monitoring institutions have called on the UN to not allow another stalemate to impact the Afghan elections. Observers add that the UN has taken the responsibility in auditing the process and they must finish the job.
