An industrial town for carpet weaving and processing will be established in western Herat province with more than 1,500 people, local officials said on Monday.
This is the first rug town in the country, built 30 km from Herat city.
Mutasel Kumaki, Deputy for Ministry of Trade and Industries, said that this town will include all production and living facilities.
"We will give them land for living and for production, because rug production needs a lot of people. The good thing is that we have considered workers' living. This town will be the first rug production town in the country," he said.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Herat Fazil Waheedi said that a number of individuals have occupied land for building factories, but even after years, their factories are not active.
Waheedi warned the builders of these factories that if factories are not active within the next month, land for the factories will be taken back from them.
"We have only given them one month, the warning has been issued and they only have one month," he said.
A number of plots in the carpet town have been dedicated to female carpet producers.
