Local officials on Wednesday confirmed that a Taliban shadow governor for Alingar district of Laghman province and five other insurgents were killed in an operation conducted by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) on Tuesday.
According to reports, 13 Taliban insurgents were also injured in the operation and three others were taken into custody.
"The operation was launched in the Selingar area of Alingar district by the Afghan Forces, killing a Taliban commander and his five fighters," said Fazl Ahmad Sherzad, Provincial Police chief.
"The operation was launched to eliminate the insurgents from the area," Mr. Sherzad added.
There were no ANSF casualties during the raid. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry in a statement released on Wednesday said that six insurgents were killed and 25 others arrested during an operation launched by the Afghan National Police (ANP) in six provinces.
"Within 24 hours, the ANP conducted several clearance operations along with the Afghan National Army (ANA), National Directorate of Security (NDS) and coalition forces in Nangarhar, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Uruzgan, Logar and Helmand provinces. In the operation, six armed Taliban insuregnts were killed, one wounded and 25 others were arrested," the statement said.
"Also, during these operations, the ANP discovered and confiscated some amount of light and heavy ammunitions," the statement further added.
The statement also mentioned that the police discovered and defused four different types of landmines in northern Sar-e-Pul, eastern Logar and western Farah provinces.
