Residents of eastern Ghazni have expressed their concern over a lack of voter registration centers in the province and are asking the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) to open more centers in the province.
The residents said the IEC has opened only two voter registration centers in the province, not enough for the people and most residents have not yet received voter cards.
One of the voter registration centers has opened in Ghazni’s Ministry of Women’s Department and the people have to wait for hours to find the voter cards or visit several times.
“We want the government to open three or four other voter registrations centers in the province,” said a resident of Ghazni.
“I come here to find the voter card, but only those who are powerful or know the centers people are finding the cards,” said another resident of the province.
Officials of the provincial IEC office accept the issues and said that they have asked the central office to open several other centers in the province.
“Providing the voter cars has been done in all districts of the province except Nawa district, this process is not new and those who have cards from last elections, they can use it. Those who have not received the voter cards, they can find them in our centers,” said Shah Jahan Sardari, the head of the Provincial IEC office.
The complaints come less than 50 days to the holding of the Presidential and Provincial Councils elections.
