Wais Barmak, Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development on Monday said that over $90 million have been spent on various development projects in north-eastern Badakhshan province in a decade.
Wais Barmak added that over 2,800 development projects have been completed in 1,984 villages in the province and work on 600 other projects is underway in several districts in the province.
"In the past decade, the Ministry has spent $90 million on 2,800 development projects in 24 district of the Badakhshan province. Works on 600 other projects has already begun," said Wais Barmak.
Mr. Barmak assured that within a year, the Ministry will build a bridge over Kokcha River to link ten districts with the capital of the province. The project is estimated to cost $1.5 million.
Meanwhile, some MPs said that the completed projects have been able to solve only 50 percent of the residents' problems. They demanded that the government should work on more projects so that all the problems of the residents are solved.
"Over the last decade, works on various development projects have begun in the province. But, the projects have solved only 50 percent of the residents' problems. The government should initiate more projects in the province," said MP Nelofar Abrahimi.
Meanwhile, Shah Wali Adeeb, Governor of Badakshan province, praised the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development for completing several projects on time in the province. However, Mr. Adeeb emphasized on the need of more projects to solve all the problems of the province.
"Works on different projects have begun in the province, we appreciate it. But, it is not enough for the residents of Badakshan. They should take up more infrastructures related projects in the province," said Mr. Adeeb.
So far, the Ministry has spent $100 million on various development projects in the province, but the residents are urging the government to work on infrastructure related projects in the province.
