Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday—first day of Eid ul-Fitr—at the Presidential Palace said that the Afghan people want a final decision made on the prolonged presidential runoff elections so that the new government can be implemented soon.
He emphasized that the people participated in the runoff with enthusiasm and pride and are awaiting the final outcome of their votes.
“Millions of Afghans went and voted and now want the lengthened election process to be finalized so a new president and new government can be put into practice,” Karzai said.
He compared security in the past 14 years to the 2014 presidential elections adding that this year’s insecurities has risen and stresses that it is a result of foreign terrorists.
“After the election, more attacks were launched on Afghanistan,” he added. “Insecurities in the past two months are unprecedented compared to the past 14 years. Every day our security forces report that many foreigners come to Afghanistan and begin attacking the Afghan people."
Experts believe that the prolonged runoff election has led the country to witness an increase of insecurity, economic instability and social crisis.
The finalization of the runoff elections will solve many of the economic and social challenges that are being faced in the country if the presidential runoff is concluded soon.
