The Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) reported on Thursday that it would refer its decisions in regard to the provincial council elections to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) before Eid-ul-Adha.
"We will send the results to IEC before Eid," ECC Chief Abdul Sattar Sadat said. "We are all tired of this. People are tired of these dragging elections."
Affected by the the presidential electoral stalemate, the results of the provincial council elections still remain unclear.
Provincial council candidates have stressed that the delay could taint the transparency of the elections even more, emphasizing that the provincial council elections should not be held at the same time as the presidential elections again.
"There are behind the scene political deal-makings, exactly like the presidential elections," provincial candidate of Kabul, Khatera Eshaqzai said.
Another Kabul provincial candidate Abdul Khaliq Hajji Warandost demanded that the results be announced soon.
"The results should be announced so that we can start serving the people."
"Every time people call us to ask what we are doing, we have to respond that we have not started yet," Kabul candidate Rahimullah Mujahid asserted.
The ECC has stressed that the recount process has separated fake votes from genuine ones, adding that there are minor problems in Kapisa and Nangarhar provinces, which have yet to be addressed. The commission also noted that holding the presidential and provincial council elections together has brought about many challenges.
