Nabil was born in the Jaghato district of Maidan Wardak province in 1968. He graduated with a university degree in civil engineering and can speak Pashto, Dari and English.
He has held high-profile government functions since 2002, including a role as the deputy head of internal communications for the National Security Council in 2004.
He conceived the idea for the President Protective Service (PPS), and headed the force.
In 2010, Nabil was appointed head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), Afghanistan’s intelligence agency, and after two years of service he was appointed to deputy head of the National Security Council.
He resigned as NDS director in December 2015
Nabil’s running mate for first vice president is Gen. Murad Ali Murad, a former deputy interior minister for security. Massouda Jalal, a former women’s affairs minister, is his choice for second vice president.
