NOTE: Recently Abdali has ended his own presidential bid and joined Mohammad Ashraf Ghani's team.

Abdali has served as Afghanistan’s ambassador to India for six years. He was also the non-resident ambassador of Afghanistan to Bhutan, Maldives and Nepal.

He was previously nominated by former president Hamid Karzai to serve as the Deputy National Security Advisor

and Special Assistant to the former president. Abdali provided the president with policy and oversight advice on national security issues.

He entered the presidential election race with Abdul Basir Salangi and Zulfiqar Omaid as his running mates.
