Ten Taliban insurgents, including their four commanders, were reportedly killed. A police officer was also killed and another taken hostage by insurgents.
"The attack took place at around 4:00 am after a number of Taliban insurgents launched attacks on local police check-posts in Bala Murghab district of the province," said Mirwais Mirzakwal, the Provincial Governor's spokesman.
"The clashes are ongoing and the insurgents have taken control over two check-posts," Mr. Mirzakwal added.

Early Monday, a group of insurgents attacked an Afghan National Army (ANA) base in Tagab district of north-eastern Kapisa province early Monday morning, killing two soldiers and injuring three others.
Following the initial explosion of a suicide bomber, a gun-battle erupted between the attackers and the Afghan military forces. In total, four insurgent were killed and 10 injured by the base forces according to Sakhidad, a commander of the 201st Selab Military Corps stationed at the base in Tagab.
The remaining insurgents who were involved in the attack fled from the area once Afghan forces gathered in response.
According to reports, a number of other insurgents stalked out the areas surrounding the base in Tagab as well as nearby Alasay district in hopes of targeing support troops sent to the base after the attack.
The base reportedly suffered considerable structural damage.
