Local officials said on Tuesday that two local residents are missing after flash floods hit eastern Paktika province on Monday afternoon.
The provincial governor's office released a statement that said the floods, caused by the sudden onset of heavy downpours, were most severe in the Taroo and Ramai districts of the province. In addition to the two missing residents, the governor's office said there was heavy property damage left by the floods.
The local police forces have been ordered to help the resident of the districts with emergency care and reconstruction.
On Saturday, flash floods caused by torrential rains resulted in the deaths of 20 people in Kabul province. The floods resulted in the closing of numerous roads into the capital, grinding commuter traffic to a halt.
The damage caused by the floods on Monday and Saturday, however, was relatively minor compared to that which was left by flash floods a week ago. Over 100 people were killed and dozens injured in a flash flood that struck Surobi district in Kabul province last week.
Spring and summer months in Afghanistan commonly bring flash floods in result of heavy rains and the melting of snow and ice in the mountains.
