Geography
Location: In northern Afghanistan at 36°N 69°E and borders Kunduz, Takhar, Panjshir, Parwan, Bamyan and Samangan provinces.

Topography: Most of the province is mountainous as part of the Hindu Kush range. The Salang Pass splits the Hundu Kush Mountains in Baghlan and connects the province with its southern neighbor, Parwan. The Salang River flows southward nearby. Kakar Valley is a famous coal mining site in the province. However, there are significant swaths of arable flatlands as well.

Home to the historic Surkh Kotal "fire temple" built by Zoroastrians. It was a central battleground between Russian troops and the mujahedeen during the Soviety Invasion. The economy is primarily agricultural, with grapes, pistachios and pommengranates being its staple crops. Silk is also produced, and coal is mined in the Kakar Valley.
