Miscellaneous
Farah province has ruins and remnants from civilizations 3,000 years old. It was conquered by Alexander the Great. It was also part of the Safavid empire. Since the U.S.-led invasion in 2001, Farah has seen relative peace in comparison to other provinces throughout the country. However, in 2009 an American airstrike in the Bala Buluk District resulted in the deaths of some 100 civilians. The tomb of Muhammad Jaunpuri, who was born in the 15th century and claimed to be the Mahdi, is said to be in Farah and is visited by pilgrims from Pakistan and India every year.
