Miscellaneous
Jowzjan was a part of the Khanate of Bukhara until the 18th century when it was enveloped into the Durrani Empire, which formed the modern state of Afghanistan. It was a holdout during the Taliban regime until it was captured from General Abdul Rashid Dostum in 1998. It has typically been one of the more peaceful provinces in the country since the U.S.-led invasion in 2001, but it has become increasingly volatile with government, NGO and civilian traverlers on the Mazar-i-Sharif-Sheberghan highway often targeted by insurgents and Illegal Armed Groups (IAGs).
