Geography
Location: Kabul province is located in eastern Afghanistan at 34.00°N 69.00°E and borders Kapisa, Laghman, Nangarhar, Logar, Wardak and Parwan provinces.

Topography: Surrounded by Koh-e Paghman Mountain from the east, Koh-e Qrough Mountain from the south-west and Koh-e Shirdarwaza Mountain from the north-east. Kabul hasonly one river which is called Kabul River. Kabul River rises at the Paghman Mountain toward South Pass west of Kabul. It flows in an easterly direction, past Kabul, and through Jalalabad city, and then on to Dakka where it enters Pakistani territory and finally runs into the Indus River.

Kabul province is home to the nation's capital, Kabul city. It is one of the oldest cities in Afghanistan, with history dating back 3,500 years. It served as a central hub for a number of empires inclduing those of Zoroastrian, Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim dynasties. It was known as the "Paris of Central Asia" in the 1960s and 70s because of its lively and cosmopolitan culture. It was the stronghold for Russian forces during the Soviet Union's invasion, and then the flashpoint of civil war violence in the ensuing years. It became the capital of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan under the Taliban, and then stayed the capital once the Republic was founded. It has some of the country's most advanced infrastructure and economic activity. It is home to the most popular and competitive universities as well.
