Geography
Location: In northern Afghanistan at 36.8°N 68.8°E and borders Takhar, Baghlan, Samangan and Balkh provinces as well as Tajikistan.
Size: 8,040 sq kilometers (3,100 sq miles)

Topography: Mountainous and semi-mountainous in the majority of the province, with parts of the Pamir and Hindu Kush ranges. The Kunduz River valley dominates the province. The River flows from south to north into the Amu Darya which divides Kunduz from Tajikistan. Well irrigated flatlands dot the province.
