Geography
Location: In northern Afghanistan and borders Sar-e Pol, Balkh, Kunduz, Baghlan and Bamyan provinces.

Topography: Mountainous and semi-mountainous in the majority of the province, with the highest mountains of the Hindu Kush range in the southwest. The Khulm River valley forms the heart of the province, where the capital lies. The River splits the mountainous south from the more flat north. The northern part of the province is the beginning of the Central Asian Steppe.
