Police officials in Kunduz province said on Thursday night that Salahuddin, a nephew of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the leader of Hezb-e-Islami Party, hit and killed a police officer with his car and then shot a man to death after fleeing the scene.
Local officials reported that Salahuddin was drunk and was driving with two women inside his car when he killed the two people. They said he and the two women have been arrested.
"Salahuddin, the nephew of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, killed a police officer while driving a Corolla in the Gul Tapa area of Imam Sahib District," Kunduz Police Chief, Sayed Sarwar Hussaini said. "After the incident he escaped from the scene and then shot and killed another man..."
Hussaini said Salahuddin killed the police officer while driving through a check-point at high speeds. No explanation was offered as to why the fleeing suspect shot the second, unarmed man.
"The car was driving very fast, Salahuddin was trying to escape, and there were two strange women and a Kalashnikov with him," Amanullah Ibrahimi, the Imam Sahib District Police Chief, added.
Reportedly, Salahuddin had a permit for the gun and is currently employed at Shir Khan Port.
Salahuddin is the son of Shabuddin, the brother of Hizb-e-Islami Party leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
