On Wednesday, MPs called the Afghan elections "hysterical" and asked that members of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) responsible for fraud and malpractice should be brought to justice.
MPs believe that judicial organs should pay particular attention to the issue as the IEC members have betrayed people's trust.
“The election process was a failure,” Parliament’s First Deputy Speaker, Siddiqi Ahmad Usmani said. “The IEC officials must be introduced to the judicial organs.”
Moreover, MP Zakaria Zakaria stated that "most of the challenges facing Afghanistan today were caused by the election crisis."
“Staying silent is oppression against the people," another MP Shakiba Hashimi added.
MP Saleh Mohammad Saleh asserted that the IEC members should be put on trial for making Afghanistan "globally notorious."
“It's a shame that foreigners had to come to solve our problems," he asserted.
Meanwhile, a number of civil society institutions have reiterated that the only way to restore people's trust in the electoral institutions is to hold those involved in fraud and mismanagement accountable for their actions.
