Geography
Location: In northwestern Afghanistan at 35°0′N 63°45′E and borders Faryab, Ghor and Herat provinces as well as the state of Turkmenistan.
Size: 20,591 sq kilometers (7,950 sq miles)

Topography: Nearly the entire province is mountainous or semi-mountainous, lying at the farthest west edge of the Hindu Kush range. The rest of the province is rugged flatland and river valleys that follow the Murghab River in the north and the Hari-Rud River in the south.

Named "home of the winds" after the steppe winds that blow across it, Badghis is considered one of the least developed provinces in Afghanistan. It was also the last area of the country to be brought under Taliban control prior to the U.S.-led invasion in 2001. It leads the country in pistachio production and his well-known for rug-making.
