Ahmad Wali Massoud, head of the Ahmad Shah Massoud Foundation, said on Monday that presidential candidates, Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, should consider what is best for people as they continue their negotiations over the future government.
Speaking at the ‘Massoud and National Doctrine in Afghanistan’ conference, Ahmad Wali emphasized that it is time to put all political tensions aside and reach agreements on creating an inclusive government.
“The formation of the national unity government is the second step; the groups must first should respect each other and cooperate in working for the nation."
The conference was held on the week of Ahmad Shah Massoud's death anniversary—a former commander of the Northern Alliance who is considered the country's national hero.
“Massoud was not only an incomparable commander he was also a good politician. Today’s politicians should follow Massoud’s legacy instead of thinking about their personal gains,” former military officer Atiqullah Amarkhil, said.
The conference discussed Massoud’s repertoire and collectively asked today's politicians to follow his legacy of unity and non-discrimination.
