In their sixth public discussions on Sunday, the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) addressed 28 complaints registered by Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai's team concerning the invalidation of ballots from 72 polling stations.
“On September 4, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) invalidated ballots of 72 polling stations and our team disagrees with the invalidation of 28 of those stations,” a member of Ghani's camp, Habib Hashemi, said.
According to ECC spokesman Nader Mohseni, only two of the 28 complaints made by the camp have been accepted by the commission.
Additionally, head of IEC’s legal affairs, Khalid Orya, responded to the electoral camps' allegations explaining that the commission has invalidated the polling stations on the basis of the set criteria.
“We had two types of audits: regular and special and no matter how the special audit is conducted, the ballot box goes for recount,” Orya explains. “Once the ballot recount is completed, discussion and evaluation over invalidation of ballots start, meaning that the invalidation criteria are implemented during recount."
The ECC said that all complaints filed in regards to the vote invalidation process have been addressed.
