29 Aug, 2013
Written By Faridullah Sahil

Local Farah provincial officials confirmed that at least fifteen Afghan National Police (ANP) officers were killed and ten others wounded during a clash with Taliban insurgents on Wednesday. No civilian or Taliban casualties were reported.

Abdulrahman Zhowandai, Spokesman of the Provincial Governor, confirmed the attack and said that the insurgents ambushed an ANP convoy, which was patrolling the Herat-Kandahar highway.

"The incident took place in Bakwa district of Farah province near the Herat-Kandahar highway at around 6:00 pm." Mr. Zhowndai said.

Mr. Zhowndai added that the wounded officers were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Four police vehicles were also reportedly destroyed in the attack.

The attack happened the same day the Polish-backed Ghazni Provincial Reconstruction Team office was attacked by a group of Taliban insurgents. Two ANP officers and one civilian bystander were killed in the attack. Twenty others were reported to have suffered injuries.
